The idea that changes in society can be systematically studied within the framework of a science dedicated to such a task was first presented by Ibn Khaldun. Although Ibn Khaldun had been widely cited as the founder of sociology and other disciplines in the social sciences, there has been surprisingly little theoretical and empirical work done from what might be called a Khaldunian perspective. The purpose of this seminar to is to discuss what such a perspective might look like. The focus is on the methodological, theoretical and empirical relevance of Ibn Khaldun for the social sciences.
